Pak govt should not sell Sikh shrine land: SGPC

Updated on Jul 12, 2011 09:15 pm IST

Amid reports of selling of a Sikh shrine land to a private builder in Pakistan, India's top most Sikh body, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday demanded that the central government of Pakistan must provide security to the Sikh shrines across the country. The Sikh body also urged Pakistan to respect the rights of the minorities. Media reports recently suggested that a private builder of Rawalpindi in Pakistan claimed authority over a Sikh shrine being run by the Education Department of Pakistan's Punjab province, saying that his company owns the land and has paid huge amounts for the construction of a plaza on the land.
