Updated on Oct 12, 2012 07:21 pm IST
Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council chairman C Rangarajan on Friday said that the recommendations of the high-level expert committee under him will bring in stability and strike a balance between the interests of the sugar sector and cane growers. The panel recommended giving freedom to millers to sell sugar in the open market. Commenting on this move, Rangarajan said that the recommendations would help in increasing the reach of the public distribution system. The panel has also suggested integration of the domestic and international market so as to keep a check on the rise in price of sugar. The committee has also recommended paying farmers Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) at the time for cane purchase.
