Politicians pay homage to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

On his 48th death anniversary, the nation today remembered the great leader, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who is lovingly called as Chacha Nehru by children. President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Congress party Chief Sonia Gandhi, along with Delhi Chief Sheila Dikshit paid floral tribute to Nehru at his mausoleum Shanti Van in New Delhi. Today the whole country is remembering the architect of modern India, who laid the foundation for a secular, democratic and scientific society. Several functions including seminars and symposiums are being organised across India to mark the occasion. Nehru was independent India's first and longest serving Prime Minister from August 15, 1947 to May 27, 1964.
