The most glorified captain in the history of world cricket is the Australian skipper Ricky Ponting. His legend speaks for him as he has guided Australia to three successive World Cup triumphs. Born on 19 December, 1974, Ponting is a specialist right-handed batsman and a well-known slips and close-catching fielder, as well as a very occasional right arm medium bowler. He is also one of the most-feared batsmen in the world. His back-foot pull shots and hook are envy of even the greatest batsmen of world cricket. Ponting is a batsman with a killer instinct. His childhood heroes were his uncle Greg Campbell and David Boon. He captained Australia to two successive ICC Cricket World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007.
