SC for political settlement of Dera row
Updated on May 25, 2007 10:36 pm IST
The Supreme Court on Friday said that the row between the Sikhs and the Dera Sacha Sauda sect should be resolved politically. The Dera sect sought protection after the highest Sikh body - the Akal Takht ordered the sect's facilities in Punjab to be shut down by May 27. Dera sought protection of life and properties of the sect across the country. The row began on May 14 when the leader of the Dera sect appeared in newspaper photographs dressed like Guru Gobind Singh which offended the Sikh sentiments.
