Updated on Nov 15, 2010 07:08 pm IST
In a bid to foil increasing maoist influence, regional authorities in Bihar and Jharkhand have tightened security along the border areas of the states on Sunday. The regional police, along with paramilitary forces, launched a joint combing operation to search and destroy landmines laid down by the rebel cadres in Gaya district of Bihar. Several paramilitary personnel undertook the operation, armed with special gadgets to identify the dangerous zones. Evidently, Maoists have lately resorted to laying landmines on railway tracks, threatening villagers and attacking political offices as part of their continuing guerilla offensive against the government. Keywords:
