Train mishap near Chennai

Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday assured to direct personal attention into probing the causes behind the railway accident near Arakkonam town of Tamil Nadu. At least 7 people were killed and over 70 injured in a collision between two trains near Arakkonam on Tuesday. The collision took place when a local train from Chennai Beach to Vellore collided with the rear of the stationary passenger train from Arakkonam to Vellore. The minister also announced an exgratia of Rs 5 lakh for the next of the kin of those who were killed in the rail mishap. Trivedi said Rs 1 lakh would be given to those grievously injured and Rs 25,000 for those who suffered simple injuries.
