Residents of several villages near Surat in Gujarat are facing acute water shortage, which forces them to travel about five kilometers from the village to get drinking water. According to them, it is only once in a month that they get water at home. Also, there are certain neighbourhoods in the region, which don't receive water at all. Moreover, the residents use contaminated water for bathing and washing clothes. Villagers also lament lack of administrative help in solving the problem.
