Italian-Led EU Mission Boards Sanctioned Russian Shadow Fleet Tanker

An Italian-led EU naval mission boarded the sanctioned tanker Toa Payoh in the Mediterranean to verify its nationality and flag registration after the captain initially failed to cooperate. The operation, conducted under EUNAVFOR MED Irini with support from Greece and Poland, is part of the EU's efforts to enforce sanctions targeting Russia's so-called "shadow fleet" used to transport oil.
