India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, at HT Leadership Summit 2025, said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India will not complicate New Delhi’s trade negotiations with the United States, stressing that India is “mature enough” to manage multiple strategic relationships at the same time. He framed the Russia visit and a potential India-U.S. trade deal as parallel tracks, arguing that India’s foreign policy is driven by national interest and strategic autonomy rather than by choosing one partner over another.
