Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi expressed confidence in Japan’s growing diplomatic influence following the APEC Summit 2025 in Gyeongju, South Korea. In her first 12 days in office, Takaichi has embarked on an intense round of diplomacy, from attending the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia to hosting U.S. President Donald Trump in Tokyo, and now representing Japan at APEC 2025. Takaichi hailed the Japan–US alliance as “the greatest in the world”, reaffirming her commitment to regional stability and cooperation under the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision. She also held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where both sides agreed to pursue mutually beneficial and stable relations, emphasizing the importance of direct and frank dialogue.
