One of the most highly anticipated contests in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections is over Amethi, in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress bastion is currently represented by party President Rahul Gandhi. But Union Minister Smriti Irani, fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party on the seat, is committed to giving Gandhi a run for his money. The battle has intensified with Irani even alleging booth capturing in the constituency. The Congress has dismissed the claims as an excuse for defeat.
