French President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the 130 victims of the 2015 Paris attacks, vowing that France will “never cease to defend” its democratic values. Speaking at a memorial ceremony, Macron said the terrorists targeted symbols of French life—sport, music, conviviality, and freedom—striking at the heart of democracy. He highlighted France’s strengthened counter-terrorism efforts, noting 85 foiled attacks in the past decade, including six this year. Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to fighting extremism at home and abroad and stressed the need to pass on national values to younger generations. The November 13 attacks remain among France’s deadliest in modern history.
