U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the current strikes on Iran are aimed at degrading assets used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which he calls an international waterway, and argues that as long as Iran insists on controlling it and keeps launching missiles and drones at ships, the U.S. will respond militarily while still remaining “open to diplomacy” if Tehran genuinely changes its behavior.
