Watch | One Direction emerge winners at American Music Awards 2015

British boy band One Direction took the fan-voted American Music Awards by storm on Sunday.

The group performed “Perfect” and took home trophies for favorite pop/rock duo or group and artist of the year.

Before the show Liam Payne said he was thrilled to attend the annual event held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

“Amazing! We've had the best time here ever. So we're really looking forward to it,” Payne said.

Host Jennifer Lopez kicked off the AMAs in a dance routine that highlighted some of the year's biggest hits like “Where Are U Now,” ''Anaconda,” ''Uptown Funk!” and “Hotline Bling.” She also impressively sang in almost a cappella form.

The performance that got the most attention, though, was Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth's. The singers made out onstage after singing their song, “Marvin Gaye,” which features the lyrics: “Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on.” Justin Bieber won collaboration of the year for “Where Are U Now” with Skrillex and Diplo.
