- Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his two-child policy pitch. CM Sarma had earlier called for population control measures in Assam. Sarma had said a two-child policy will be gradually implemented in the state. Sarma had said it would be mandatory to follow it to avail some govt benefits. "I don’t think there is any reaction from any muslim people. Two factions of all-Assam minority students union welcomed the proposal. I am meeting many muslim intellectuals, confident they will support this. This is the only way we can eradicate poverty & illiteracy in muslim minority. I will have many meetings with many muslim organisations as well. I don’t think there is any resistance from inside the muslim community," he said.
