- Union Minister Smriti Irani took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi over his tweet slamming the Union Budget. Calling it 'childish', the union minister said that Rahul Gandhi believes in pity politics. In his tweet, the Congress leader had questioned Centre over Defence Budget allocation. The Gandhi scion had also questioned PM Modi over celebrating festivals with soldiers. "I think he (Rahul Gandhi) did not listen or read the Budget properly. He should read his family history to know their close relations with China. He is commenting on the PM celebrating festivals with soldiers, it is childish. Rahul Gandhi is having a problem with it because he believes in pity politics," Smriti Irani said. FM Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for 2021-22 in Lok Sabha on Monday. She read out her speech from a tablet as it was the first paperless budget. This was also the first budget after Covid-19 pandemic and the ninth one under the Modi government.
