Former CBI chief AP Singh said Mehul Choksi is fit to be deported to India. The fugitive diamantaire is currently being held in police custody in Dominica. Singh added that Choksi held no legal rights in the East Caribbean Island nation. The ex-CBI chief stressed that deportation is an easier process than extradition. “It is possible for Dominica to deport Choksi to India as he has no legal rights there. But he alleged before court that he was abducted & brought to a third country. Now, the court will decide on Mehul Choksi's deportation,” he said. Singh added, “If a fugitive is living in another country with citizenship, extradition is the way out. If he has gone to the third country voluntarily, he can be brought back.” Choksi is a key accused in the ₹13,000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan fraud case.
