Cyclone Yaas: 'One crore people affected, 3 lakh houses damaged,' says CM Mamata

- At least one crore people have been affected in West Bengal due to Cyclone Yaas. CM Mamata Banerjee said three lakh houses have been damaged & one person died. The CM added that over 15 lakh people have been evacuated & moved to safer areas. “Over 15 lakh people have been evacuated from the vulnerable areas in the state and moved to safer places. At least 1 crore people have been affected and three lakh houses damaged due to rough weather conditions,” she said. Cyclone Yaas made its landfall on Wednesday morning near Dhamra port in Odisha. The cyclone hit the coast with a wind speed of 130-140 kmph, gusting to 155 kmph.
