'Ensure gains aren't reversed': India's SOS to World on Afghan women

- India on Friday voiced concern over the increasing attempt towards removing women from public life in Afghanistan, calling for ensuring protection of rights of women and girls and that long-fought gains of the last two decades are not reversed. The Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in mid-August 2021 after seizing the capital Kabul, bringing to a swift end almost 20 years of a US-led coalition's presence in the war-torn country. After taking power, the hardline Islamist group has been issuing new laws, saying that women should only leave their homes in cases of necessity and then, with their faces covered in public.
