'India's deterrence against China': Why Navy wants another Vikrant warship
Published on Aug 26, 2022 09:34 am IST
- The Indian Navy will conduct critical flight trials on board the Vikrant warship from November. The flight trials will involve the Russian-origin MiG 29k fighter jets. India is also planning to buy 26 new fighters for Vikrant through a government-to-government deal. Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet is competing with French Dassault aviation’s RafalAe-M for the order. The warship will be fully operational & integrated with its air wing by mid-2023. Navy vice chief vice admiral SN Ghormade said they are pushing a case for a second IAC that can be built faster than the Vikrant by tapping into the ship-building experience & expertise acquired with the first indigenous aircraft carrier. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commission the Vikrant into the Navy on September 2 in Kochi. Watch this video to know more.
