Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has defended his government's anti-encroachment drive in Darrang that turned violent and claimed two lives in police firing on Thursday. Sarma claimed that the area is known for killings right since 1980s and accused the evicted families of encroaching upon 27,000 acres of Temple land in the area. He however assured that if any policeman is found guilty, the government will take action. This as opposition continues its attack on Assam's BJP government over the deadly violence.
