NCT Bill row: Does it curtail elected Delhi govt's power. And what next?
Published on Apr 13, 2021 01:02 am IST
- The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. The bill gives primacy to the Lieutenant Governor over the elected government in the capital. The opposition is calling it the Central government’s underhanded way of snatch away the democratic rights of elected governments of states and union territories. They claim that the Bill also violates the Supreme Court’s 2018 verdict on the issue of power sharing between the Delhi government and the Centre appointed L-G. Watch this episode of Take 5, where Hindustan Times’ Aditi Prasad explains the bill, its implications and what the Kejriwal led AAP could do in the days ahead.
