‘PM Modi’s practical attitude…’: Jaishankar on how India-U.S ties have changed

- India's external affairs minister S Jaishankar has heaped praise on PM Modi as he discussed the transformation in India-U.S ties while interacting with Arvind Panagariya, former Vice-Chairman at Niti Aayog, and Professor at Columbia University. "For nearly five decades India looked upon the United States with suspicion and its overall foreign policy assessment of the U.S was of deep caution, but the country has now overcome the assumptions to forge a different relationship with America," said Jaishankar. He credited PM Modi in reshaping India’s relation with the U.S. "One of the big differences which PM Modi has made…he has not carried ideological baggage, he’s not a person who is rooted in a certain world view which makes you fundamentally distant from the U.S,” he said.
