Putin moves to deprive EU of gas by drastically cutting supply amid sanctions

Russian President Vladimir Putin has weaponized gas exports to pressure the European Union into reducing its sanctions over the war in Ukraine. The Russian state-controlled energy company Gazprom has announced a drastic cut to gas deliveries through its main pipeline to Europe from July 27, prompting Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to accuse Moscow of waging a “gas war”. This is a fresh blow for the West which is already struggling to cope up with the reduced gas supply from Russia in the last few months.
