A massive rescue effort in Turkey and Syria is underway with rescuers battling frigid weather in a race against time to find survivors under buildings flattened by a devastating earthquake. More than 5000 people have been killed after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Turkey and northern Syria. Rescuers are working with heavy equipment as a worldwide relief effort promised relief material, search teams and equipment for the affected regions. Turkish President Erdogan has declared a three-month state of emergency in 10 southeastern provinces hit by the earthquake. Erdogan said over 8000 people have been rescued alive from under the rubble.
