- Covid-19 norms went for a toss during the Pidakala war in Andhra's Kurnool district. Incident comes amid a steep surge in coronavirus cases across several states. Thousands of people flocked to celebrate New Year, Ugadi in Kairuppala village. Villagers were seen hurling cow dung cakes at each other as part of celebrations. The crowd displayed no regard to wearing face masks or social distancing. Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a steady rise in fresh Covid cases over the last few weeks. It recorded over 4,220 cases on Wednesday, the highest daily count in six months.
