'Will move Supreme Court, deploy commandos on Mizoram border': Assam CM

- Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said his government will move the Supreme Court seeking protection of forests. He said border clashes with Mizoram were not a political issue but a long-standing dispute. Sarma added that three battalions of commandos would be deployed in Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts bordering Mizoram to quell violence. This comes a day after border clashes with Mizoram left five state cops, a civilian dead and several others injured. “We will move the Supreme Court to ensure that the forests are protected. This is not a political issue, but a boundary dispute between two states. There was a dispute even when there was a Congress government on both the sides,” he said. “Assam is ready to give anything for peace in the northeast, we don't want land. But it is a reserve forest & can reserve forest be utilised for settlement? Dispute is not regarding land, it is about forest & Assam wants to protect it,” he added.
