On cam: Meloni surprises Trump with Ukraine deal twist| Italy going against Europe allies on Russia?

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said she found willingness from President Trump to amend the 28-point U.S. peace plan for Ukraine, taking into account concerns raised by European and G7 leaders. Speaking on the sidelines of the G20 summit, Meloni said discussions in Geneva are ongoing and stressed that positive work can be done on key issues, including territorial arrangements, reconstruction funding, and security guarantees inspired by Italy’s Article Five model. She highlighted Europe’s efforts to support Ukraine, including reducing dependence on Russian gas, and stressed the importance of Ukrainian institutions fighting corruption amid wartime challenges. Meloni emphasized that the focus is on producing a viable, black-and-white proposal that ensures peace, Ukrainian sovereignty, and European security.
