Readying for a frozen-lake marathon at Pangong Tso

- India’s first frozen-lake marathon is set to be held on February 20, at the Pangong Tso in Leh. It's being organised by the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh (ASFL), and is being called The Last Run - because it's possible that the lake will not freeze over to the same extent again. That, of course, is just one of the many ways in which the climate crisis is affecting sensitive ecosystems, traditional ways of life, and access to essential resources such as housing and water, across the Himalayan region. To draw attention to this building crisis, 75 runners will run a half-marathon (21 km), at an altitude of 4,350 metres above sea level. It's a run so unique, all those who complete it will automatically become part of a bid for a Guinness record for highest frozen-lake half-marathon in the world. Tour the site in this video, and see Chamba Tsetan discuss the mission.
