Providence Mayor Brett Smiley says two people were killed and eight others are in critical but stable condition after an afternoon shooting at Brown University’s Barus and Holley engineering and physics building, which houses classrooms and labs. He confirms no suspect is in custody, urges residents in and around Brown’s campus to shelter in place and avoid returning home until the order is lifted, and notes that city, university and federal authorities are working together to locate the shooter or shooters.
