Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov has publicly challenged the U.S. narrative on the collapsed Anchorage peace talks, demanding clarity on “who exactly failed” after Marco Rubio said Ukraine rejected a proposed territorial division. Speaking at the SCO meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Lavrov insists Moscow accepted Washington’s compromise proposal, only for Kyiv and the EU to abandon it after the G7 summit in Evian‑les‑Bains, with Ukraine’s foreign minister declaring the deal “buried.” This as Rubio insisted that Ukraine never agreed to the “3+2” territorial plan, stating that new ideas are needed.
