Russia signaled strengthened ties with India and China after President Trump suggested both nations were “lost to deepest, darkest China” following the Modi-Putin-Xi summit in Tianjin. While Trump sharply criticized India’s trade practices and Russia’s alignment with China, he soon softened his stance, calling relations with India “special” and describing PM Modi as his “friend,” a message warmly reciprocated by Modi. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in remarks during the summit, emphasized the “commonality of interests” and the historic rise of the RIC (Russia-India-China) partnership, symbolized by the 'elephant-dragon-bear' analogy—hinting at future summits and deeper cooperation among these three global powers.
