Iran’s leadership has rattled Washington’s Gulf partners after launching ballistic missiles at US-linked targets across the region, including a direct hit near the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, drawing a sharp rebuke from Manama and its neighbors. In an emergency intervention at the UN, Bahrain’s envoy—speaking for the Gulf Cooperation Council and regional states—slammed Tehran’s “unjustified” retaliation strikes, held Iran fully responsible, and vowed to reject any explanation seeking to legitimize what they called cowardly attacks and a blatant violation of sovereignty and international law.
