The United States has launched airstrikes against Islamic State militants in northwest Nigeria, with President Donald Trump touting the Christmas‑night operation as a “powerful and deadly strike” against “ISIS Terrorist Scum” he claims have been “viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians.” In a Truth Social post, Trump said he had previously warned the group there would be “hell to pay” if the killings continued and declared that “tonight, there was,” adding that the Department of War had carried out “numerous perfect strikes” and vowing that under his leadership the U.S. “will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper,” before signing off with “MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists.”
