The Ukrainian Armed Forces are operating Russian-made Mi-17 helicopters, transferred from the U.S. The choppers belonged to Afghan Air Force, which no longer exists; U.S. earmarked at least 20 Mi-17s for Ukraine. Primarily meant for utility missions like troops & cargo transport, Mi-17s can be armed with rockets, other weapons. Some Mi-17s in Ukrainian service seem to be repainted Afghan Air Force choppers, armed with rocket pods on stub wings.
