Ramaphosa shreds Trump’s G20 credibility with epic laugh, Karoline Leavitt rushes for damage control

Updated on Nov 21, 2025 03:55 pm IST

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa laughed when asked whether the United States would send a delegation to the G20 summit after previously signaling a boycott. Speaking in Johannesburg alongside EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa, Ramaphosa said South Africa had received a notice from Washington but discussions on U.S. participation were still ongoing. Ramaphosa also highlighted an “unprecedented agreement” signed with the EU, saying it marked a shift from African nations exporting raw minerals to processing and adding value domestically. He emphasized that South Africa aims to move up the global value chain rather than serve as a supplier of unprocessed resources.
