Reports say the squad commanders, in the city for an official visit to a soldier under their command, were chased through the streets by a furious Haredi mob, with hundreds of ultra-Orthodox men surrounding them, shouting and pursuing them as tensions exploded. Dramatic footage showed a small group of police officers physically shielding the soldiers with their bodies as they tried to escort them out, while the streets were left strewn with garbage and overturned dumpsters as rioters intensified the unrest.
