Turkey announced its decision to recall its ambassador from Israel just a day before the scheduled visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Ankara's move came just days after Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he was "breaking off contact" with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Turkey, a member of the US-led NATO military alliance, has been critical of Israeli bombardment of Gaza as part of its war against Hamas, which carried out a surprise attack and massacre on October 7, sparking the latest war.
