People in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol celebrated Russia Day with full fervour. Members of the Russian Patriotic Youth Movement held a grand event at the city centre. "Our Great Motherland" chants were heard as Russian flags flew high in the port city. Russian flags were spotted on several official and residential buildings. Many Mariupol residents were even spotted carrying Russian flags in their cars. The Russian Federation took control of the key port city in November last year. Moscow's installed administration is now carrying out reconstruction work. Officials compared the rebuilding work to that of the post-World War II era. As Mariupol celebrates Russian rule, American journalist Seymour Hersh claimed that more than half of the world’s population supports Moscow amid the war in Ukraine.
