European Commission Chief Spokesperson Paula Pinho said the money‑laundering arrest of former Ukrainian energy minister Herman Galushchenko shows Kyiv’s anti‑corruption system is “working”, even as the scandal exposes deep graft in Ukraine’s energy sector and raises questions over its EU membership bid. She stressed that fighting corruption is a core condition for Ukraine’s EU accession talks, and pointed to the performance of Kyiv’s specialised anti‑corruption bodies as a key benchmark.
