‘I don’t think science knows’: Donald Trump downplays climate change threat

Updated on Sept 15, 2020 10:42 am IST

US President Donald Trump has downplayed the climate change threat and suggest that global warming will reverse on its own. Trump was responding to concerns raised by the California environment officials during a briefing to discuss the wildfires. The issue was first raised by California Governor Gavin Newsom who said that 'something has happened to the plumbing of the world'. He said that science shows that climate change is real and that it is exacerbating the wildfires as well. Later, Wade Crowfoot, California Secretary for Natural Resources, said 'science is going to be key because if we ignore that science and sort of put our head in the sand and think it's all about vegetation management, we're not going to succeed together protecting Californians'. Responding to the concern, a dismissive Trump said that it would start getting cooler soon. When Crowfoot further responded that science did not agree with the president's assertion, Trump said that 'I don't think science knows'. This was Trump's first visit to California since the devastating blazes began there and in Washington and Oregon. Watch the full video for all the details.
