India, US call for calm as Israel-Hamas escalate aerial attacks l Latest updates

• India, US and several other countries have called for calm after tensions between Israel and Palestine escalated. At least 35 people were killed in Gaza and five in Israel in the most intensive aerial exchanges for years. Israel even claimed to have killed several Hamas intelligence leaders. This is the highest escalation between the two sides since the 2014 war. US called on both sides to de-escalate and maintain calm. ‘Israel has the right to defend itself and to respond to rocket attacks. The Palestinian people also have the right to safety and security, just as Israelis do,’ a top US official said. India also called on both parties to avoid changing the status-quo on ground.
