American rapper Kendrick Lamar made history as he won the Pulitzer Prize for music for his 2017 album “DAMN”. The prize in that category has so far only been given to classical or jazz musicians. The prize listing called his album one that “captures the complexity of modern African American life”. The rapper has so far not won the most prestigious award in music, the Grammy for “Album of the Year” which he lost to Bruno Mars this year. The reporting of The New York Times and The New Yorker on Harvey Weinstein also won the prize in the “Public Service” category.
