PM Modi hails 'vaccine century' as India crosses 100 crore Covid jabs milestone

  • India crossed 100 crore (one billion) Covid-19 vaccination mark on Thursday. The major milestone in Covid vaccination was achieved just after 10am. Congratulating the nation, PM Modi thanked health & frontline workers for the achievement. In a tweet, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated the country on achieving the feat. HM Amit Shah & BJP chief JP Nadda also hailed India's 'vaccine century' milestone. It took just nine months for the country to cross the historic figure in vaccine administration. “India's number is twice the number of vaccines administered in the United States. 75% of the eligible population has taken the first dose of Covid vaccine. Eight states and Union territories have more than 90% coverage of the first dose. CoWIN app has so far registered 76 crore beneficiaries,” govt said in a presentation. The nationwide Covid vaccination programme was launched on January 16, 2021.
