'Quad set to produce 100 crore vaccines in India by 2022 end': Joe Biden

  • US President Joe Biden said that the Quad partnership is on track to produce a billion vaccines in India by 2022. He added that nothing is more urgent than working together to defeat COVID. Biden said the US & its global partners are working to scale up vaccine manufacturing in other nations. The US president was virtually speaking at the Global Summit to End COVID-19 hosted by him. “Our Quad partnership with India, Japan, Australia is on track to produce 1 billion vaccines in India. We're helping strengthen manufacturing in South Africa & produce over 500 million doses of J&J,” he said. The Quad grouping comprises Australia, India, Japan & the United States. Biden also announced doubling US' global donation of Covid vaccine shots to the world. He said donations of a half a billion Pfizer vaccines through COVAX have already begun to ship. “US is buying another half billion doses of Pfizer to donate to low & middle-income countries. This is another half billion doses that will all be shipped by this time next year,” he said.
