Quake-hit Turkey snubs Pak, refuses to host PM Sharif; Netizens mock 'International Insult'

Published on Feb 09, 2023 12:18 pm IST

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been slapped with a so-called "international-level insult" by earthquake-battered Turkey. There has been devastation due to the earthquake in Turkey, and countries around the world, including India, are sending relief and rescue teams. But Pak attempted to capitalise on the scheduled meeting despite the disaster. However, it failed as Turkey postponed Shehbaz Sharif's visit at the last moment. Ankara cited the Turkish leadership's engagements in the ongoing rehabilitation work and bad weather to postpone the meeting, The Express Tribune reported. Following the postponement, the Pakistani government announced assistance to earthquake victims in Turkey. However, by then, netizens had already found ways to mock Pakistan's Prime Minister.
