Thunderstorm accompanies with lightning and gusty winds, speeding up to 40-50kmph, are very likely at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, parts of Maharashtra, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, the IMD said.
Char Dham Yatra suspended in Uttarakhand as rivers swell
Char Dham Yatra was suspended in Uttarakhand after several rivers across the state, including Ganga, swelled due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Landslides also hit the state, leading to closure of 109 roads.
These include the Tyuni-Mussoorie-Maletha National Highway and the pedestrian route from Janakichatti to Yamunotri near Ram Mandir among others, while authorities are making alternative arrangements for movement, reported news agency PTI.
On Wednesday, the Ganga was flowing at 292.90 metres, just 0.10 metres below the warning level and 1.10 metres below the danger mark in Haridwar. The Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers crossed their warning levels in Rudraprayag. While Alaknanda was flowing at 626.18 metres (warning mark - 626 metres), Mandakini was flowing at 625.5 metres (warning level - 625 metres).
People have been asked to stay away from river banks and move to safer locations.
Roads closed in Himachal due to rain
Incessant rainfall in Himachal Pradesh led to closure of as many as 152 roads across the state, with the maximum being in Mandi (57 roads blocked), followed by Chamba (33 roads closed), Kullu (31 roads closed), Shimla (14 roads closed), and others.
Himachal Pradesh received 258.2-mm rainfall against an average of 238.6 mm between July 1 and 29, an excess of 8 per cent, the PTI report said.

Weather Today LIVE: Heavy rainfall over the past few days has battered several parts of Chhattisgarh, triggering flood-like conditions, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting road connectivity, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, at least five people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents during this period, reported PTI.
The worst-affected areas are in the Raipur, Bastar and Durg divisions, where several roads remain submerged and authorities have issued alerts for people living along riverbanks as rivers and streams continue to swell.
In one such incident, a 55-year-old man was swept away while trying to cross the swollen Sargi stream near Sahaspur village in Gariaband district on Wednesday. His body was recovered about five kilometres away near Khuteri village, officials said.

Weather Today LIVE: Heavy rainfall triggered landslides and erosion at several locations along the Kedarnath Highway in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, disrupting vehicular traffic, with authorities launching restoration work to reopen the route.
District Magistrate Vishal Mishra inspected the affected stretches of the highway to assess the ground situation and directed officials to restore connectivity at the earliest.
Speaking to ANI, Mishra said reports of landslides were received from several locations late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, including on the Kedarnath Highway, which serves as a key route for the Char Dham Yatra and the pilgrimage to Shri Kedarnath Dham.
"I inspected the site, and our teams have done an excellent job; the road has been immediately reopened to traffic, though some large boulders still need to be cleared. I have directed the teams to expedite their removal," he said. (ANI)

Weather Today LIVE: Two teenage brothers were killed and their mother injured after a rain-triggered landslide struck their home in Nagaland's Mokokchung district, police said on Thursday, reported PTI.
The incident took place in Upper Penli Ward early Wednesday when a retaining wall above the family's rented house collapsed following overnight rain, triggering the landslide, a senior police officer said.
A joint rescue team comprising personnel from the State Disaster Response Force, district administration, police, the Penli Ward Colony Council and local volunteers recovered the bodies of the two teenagers from the debris.
Their mother, who was trapped in mud up to her waist, was rescued and taken to safety, the officer added.

Five of the deaths were reported from Keonjhar district, including a fire services personnel who was electrocuted while on duty. One person each died in Dhenkanal, Deogarh and Sambalpur districts in separate flood-related incidents, including wall collapses, officials said.
More than 4,00,000 people have been affected by the floods so far in the state, according to the government’s status report at 9am on Thursday.
