Updated on Mar 19, 2018 01:06 pm IST
Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking passed away on 14 March at the age of 76 in his home in Cambridge. Hawking was one of the longest survivors of Lou Gehrig's disease which had confined him to a wheelchair at the age of 21. But that did not stop him as he went on to make tremendous contributions to science like discovering that black holes emit heat and radiation which would be called Hawking radiation. His 1988 book “A Brief History of Time” entered the Guinness World Record book for spending 237 weeks on the Sunday Times bestseller list.
