Two Reuters journalists freed from Myanmar jail after 500 days

Two Reuters journalists who were arrested in 2017 were released after more than 500 days from Myanmar. Wa Lone, 33, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 29, were convicted for breaking Myanmar's Official Secrets Act. In 2017, they were investigating the massacre of ten Rohingya Muslim men and boys. The Reuters journalists were arrested on the evening of 12 December 2017. President Win Myint has pardoned thousands of prisoners in amnesties since last month. It is customary in Myanmar for authorities to free prisoners across the country around the time of the traditional New Year, which began on April 17.
